Dorayaki Matcha Pancake
Squeezing their generously chunky red bean paste filling between two layers of delicate castella pancake, these Marukyo Matcha dorayaki make every bite sweeter and richer with the addition of intense fragrant matcha green tea. A traditional combination of Japanese flavours made to suit the soft texture of this traditional cake, the moist airiness of these pancakes is perfect for the matcha in combination with the thick Hokkaido red bean tsubuan paste with a subtly pleasing bittersweet taste.
Dorayaki are one of Japanese cuisine's few original desserts. It is said that their invention goes back to the feudal Japan, when a Samurai warrior left his gong ('dora) at a farmer’s home where he was hiding. The farmer used the gong to cook ('yaki') round pancakes. Sweet story, sweet taste!
