Suribachi Motoshige Mortar & Pestle
The Suribachi and its Surikogi are a traditional Japanese mortar and pestle. You can use them to grind sesame seeds, nuts and spices (peppercorns, berries). You can even grind and mix the ingredients in the mortar to create raw sauces (guacamole, pesto…).
The grinding grooves inside the mortar are shaped by hand and then glazed, making it difficult to persist odors and make cleaning easier. The bottom of the mortar is covered with a silicone base to prevent slipping during use. Very aesthetic, you can even use this mortar as a serving dish for your cold sauces.
The spout, called katakuchi in Japanese, makes it easy to pour the contents. This mortar comes with a surikogi (pestle) made from ecologically and sustainably harvested wood.
We recommend our fine bamboo scraper to help you get the most out of it without any waste. These handcrafted traditional designs, are both beautiful and functional.
